The Sony Xperia Z was the first major attempt at this, but it lacked that killer feature and ended up being washed over by the HTC One and the Galaxy S4. The Sony Xperia Z1 looks to improve upon the Xperia Z and finally prove that Sony is ready to play with the big boys.
