Sony Middle East and Africa today launched the 10.1-inch Xperia Tablet Z at a media workshop in Dubai’s Ritz-Carlton DIFC hotel.
The 6.9mm thick tablet is being purported by Sony as the “world’s slimmest tablet,” and it weighs in at a light 495 grams.
A comparison with the market leader iPad 4, Apple Inc.’s spearhead tablet, is in order here. The iPad 4 is 9.4mm thick, and weighs 653 grams.
Indeed, the Xperia Tablet Z feels much lighter and thinner to hold, while boasting the same water-resistant capability of its smartphone sibling, the Sony Xperia Z smartphone.
“Keeping with the promise to launch the Xperia Tablet Z in Q2 2013, Sony introduced the tablet extension of its flagship Android smartphone, the Xperia Z,” the company said in a media statement this morning.
Sony maintains that this new tablet is a game-changer, and hopes to corner a good chunk of the market share currently hogged by Apple’s iPad.
“The Xperia Tablet Z is a game-changer in terms of its design and diversity of communication and entertainment offerings,” said Kazutoyo Araki, General Manager, IT Marketing Division, Sony Middle East and Africa.
