Claims it outperforms the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone5
Nokia announced the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone with a 41MP rear-facing camera on Thursday, as expected.
Nokia unveiled the Lumia 1020 at a event in New York today at which The INQUIRER was in attendence, claiming the device is the most powerful camera phone in the world today.
The handset features a huge 41MP camera, and while that's the same sensor found on the clunky Nokia Pureview 808, Nokia has upgraded the technology behind it to claim the Lumia 1020 is "much more advanced" than its Symbian predecessor. The Pureview 808 measured 13.9mm thick, while the Lumia 1020 is much thinner at 10.4mm.
The Nokia Lumia 1020's 41MP rear-facing camera features six-times optical zoom, optical image stablisation, a backside illuminated sensor for low light and a Xenon flash. On the software side there are also Nokia Pro Camera and Smart Shooting modes, which the firm claims furnish the phone with settings usually found only on professional SLR cameras.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop took a dig at Nokia's rivals by comparing the camera to those of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Apple iPhone 5. He said, "With the Nokia Lumia 1020, pictures will mean more to you, you'll see more in images than ever before.
