Social network Facebook revealed in a Wednesday announcement that it has launched an updated version of its iOS Messenger app, which boasts a new look and comes with additional functionality.
The release of the updated iOS Messenger app - along with the announcement that the availability of the Android version of the company's standalone Messenger app will be expanded after two weeks in limited testing - underscores Facebook's attempts to strengthen its toehold in the increasingly competitive mobile messaging arena.
About the updated iOS Messenger app, Facebook said that the app will enable the users to send text messages to one another, though without the usual other content on the social network such as the news feed and timeline profiles.
